Known as the "City of Springs", Jinan's fame is well-established with accolades echoed across Shandong province. "Lotus blossoms on three sides, willows on the other; half the city's hills, half the city's lakes" capture Jinan's unique elegance. Jinan has birthed many storied figures, like Bian Que, founder of Chinese medicine; Yin-Yang philosopher Zou Yan; Tang Dynasty founding heroes Fang Xuanling and Qin Qiong; renowned poets Li Qingzhao, Xin Qiji, Zhang Yanghao, and Li Kaixian; public library pioneer Zhou Yongnian; and famed architect Wei Xiang.
