Celebrated as the largest national forest park in both scale and number of attractions within northeastern Hubei, it holds the distinguished title of being the only national-level forest park within a 200-kilometer radius of Wuhan. Historically revered as a "Source of Immortality," the park lives up to this ancient name with its stunning landscape of competing jagged peaks, peculiar rock formations, lush forests teeming with biodiversity, fragrant blooms, melodious birdsong, and crystal-clear waters. The park boasts an impressive forest coverage of 88.2% and features a diverse collection of 54 scenic sites centered around its highest peak, which reaches an elevation of 873.7 meters.

Beyond its natural beauty, Shuangfengshan is steeped in cultural and historical significance, offering visitors a journey through time.

The Ancient Baiyun Stronghold One of the park's most notable historical sites is the Baiyun Ancient Stronghold. This fortress holds a significant place in Chinese history as the base used by Huang Chao, the leader of a massive peasant rebellion during the Tang Dynasty. Its strategic military importance and well-preserved remnants have earned it the reputation as "Hubei's Premier Stronghold," providing a tangible connection to a pivotal era in China's past.

The Imperial "First Spring Under Heaven" Adding a touch of imperial endorsement, the park is home to a spring personally inscribed by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty during his southern inspection tours. The emperor bestowed upon it the honorable title "Tian Xia Di Yi Quan," translating to "The First Spring Under Heaven." This site remains a testament to the area's long-standing recognition for its pristine natural resources.

The Natural Wonder of Qinglong Cave For geology enthusiasts, the park offers Qinglong Cave (Green Dragon Cave), renowned as the closest natural karst cave formation to Wuhan. Practical Visitor Information

Transportation and Access Reaching Shuangfengshan National Forest Park is straightforward, with driving being the most convenient option for most visitors.

  • From Xiaogan City:

    • Depart from Huangxiao Road in Xiaogan and drive approximately 20 kilometers until you encounter a fork in the road.
    • Take the left branch onto Wangyang Line and continue for about 15 kilometers, passing through Fengshan town.
    • At the ensuing T-junction, turn right and proceed for 2 kilometers.
    • Upon reaching a subsequent fork, turn right for 1 kilometer, then turn left at the next fork for a final 2 kilometers to arrive at the main entrance of Shuangfengshan.
    • Total Distance: Approximately 40 kilometers.
    • Estimated Driving Time: Around 50 minutes.

  • From Wuhan City:

    • Start from the Dongxihu Toll Station in Wuhan (toll: approximately 15 RMB).
    • After 6 kilometers, enter the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway (G4) at Wuhan West Interchange, heading towards the Xiaogan direction.
    • Drive for about 64 kilometers and exit at the Zhouxiang interchange (Xiaochang Toll Station: approximately 25 RMB).
    • After exiting, at the T-junction, turn right.
    • Follow the road for 5 kilometers through a curve, then continue along the curve for another 5 kilometers.
    • At the next T-junction, turn left and drive for 2 kilometers.
    • At the following fork, turn right for 1 kilometer, then turn left at the final fork for 2 kilometers to reach the park's main entrance.
    • Total Distance from Dongxihu Toll Station: Approximately 85 kilometers.
    • Estimated Driving Time: About 1 hour and 40 minutes.
    • Total Estimated Toll Fees: Approximately 40 RMB.
