In 1941, it was renamed "Huisheng Park," before adopting the more communal title of "Zigong People's Park" in 1950 following the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Recognizing the deep, symbiotic relationship between the park and Zigong's centuries-old lantern craft, the municipal government transferred its administration to the Zigong Lantern Trade Committee and officially rebranded it as "Zigong Lantern Park."
