Nestled in the northwest corner of Fushun County, Fushun West Lake is an artificially-landscaped natural lake renowned for its lotus flowers. Shaped like a gourd laid flat, the lake is wider in the south and narrower in the north. West Lake originated as a natural depression where rainwater flowed from the Zhongxiu, Shengui, Wufu, and Magnolia Mountains. As early as the Song Dynasty, it was dredged and embanked with stone to form a lake “6-7 li wide.”

Over successive dynasties, the lake was nurtured and embellished. Graceful pavilions were built including "West Lake Hall, Lakeview Pavilion, Surging Waves Pavilion, Fragrance-Blowing Pavilion, Spring Wind Pavilion, Awakening Mind Pavilion, Lake Music Pavilion, Lakeside Pavilion, Broad Vista Terrace, and Transcendent Terrace." The winding lake is dotted with poetic pavilions calling to one another, curved bridges, vibrant lotus flowers reflecting the sunlight, leaves reaching for the sky, and weeping willows lining the banks.

Modeled after Hangzhou’s West Lake, flat-bottomed painted boats on Fushun West Lake provide settings for banquets and receptions. Specially-made pontoon boats and kayaks offer leisurely cruises, evoking ancient stories and anecdotes.
