  • Yellow Stone Stronghold (Huangshi Zhai) Often hailed as the most famous spot within the park, the local saying goes, "If you haven't been to Yellow Stone Stronghold, you haven't really been to Zhangjiajie." This large mesa offers a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding peak forest. Visitors can hike up or take a cable car to the top, where a circular walking path leads past numerous observation decks, each presenting a stunning vista of countless pillars piercing through the clouds and mist.

  • Golden Whip Stream (Jinbian Xi) This is a relatively flat and serene hiking trail that follows a crystal-clear stream through a deep valley flanked by towering peaks. It's an excellent area for a leisurely walk, enjoying the tranquil sounds of nature, spotting wildlife, and admiring iconic formations like the Golden Whip Rock, which rises nearly 400 meters vertically. The path is shaded and rich in oxygen, making it a refreshing contrast to the mountain-top vistas.

  • Yuanjiajie Arguably the most iconic section of the park, Yuanjiajie is home to the world-famous "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain" (Qiankun Zhu), which inspired the floating peaks in the movie Avatar. The area features mind-bending landscapes with pillars so tall and slender they defy belief. The "First Bridge Under Heaven," a natural stone bridge spanning two cliffs, is another breathtaking highlight. The views from the viewing platforms here are truly unforgettable and represent the quintessential Zhangjiajie image.

Practical Visitor Information

  • Transportation Reaching the park is straightforward. From downtown Zhangjiajie City, regular buses depart from the central bus station (at the intersection of Huilong Road and Renmin Road) directly to the National Forest Park's main entrance. The journey is approximately 32 kilometers and takes about 40 minutes. Alternatively, taxis are readily available from the railway station or airport for a more direct, though more expensive, trip to the park gates.

  • Ticket Information The park operates a tiered pricing system for peak and off-peak seasons.

    • Peak Season (March 1 - November 30): Standard single-entry ticket is CNY 165. A discounted ticket is available for CNY 83. A combined ticket (entry + sightseeing bus) costs CNY 224 (standard) or CNY 113 (discounted). Significant discounts are available for online bookings made more than 10 days in advance.
    • Off-Peak Season (December 1 - February 28): Standard single-entry ticket is CNY 84. A discounted ticket is CNY 42. The combined ticket costs CNY 144 (standard) or CNY 72 (discounted). Advance online purchases also offer savings.
    • Important Notes: The main entrance ticket is valid for 4 consecutive days. Entry is permitted through any of the five official ticket stations in the Wulingyuan area. Children under 14, seniors over 65, disabled visitors, and active/retired military personnel with valid ID qualify for free entry (a mandatory CNY 8 management/insurance fee applies). Children aged 14-18, seniors 60-65, and full-time students with valid ID are eligible for half-price concession tickets. However, to fully appreciate its scale and beauty at a more relaxed pace, and to visit multiple scenic areas, 2-3 days are highly recommended, especially considering the 4-day validity of the ticket.
