Perched atop the Lingjiu Peak within Wutai Mountain, Pusa Peak, also known as Zhenrong Monastery or Wenshu Monastery, is steeped in legend and history. Dating back to the Northern Wei Dynasty and witnessing numerous renovations through the ages, Pusa Peak holds a significant place as the foremost Yellow Monastery on Wutai Mountain since the Ming Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the mountain became a haven for Mongolian and Tibetan Buddhists, with lamas residing in Pusa Peak, solidifying its status as a prominent monastery.

Historical Significance: Founded during the Northern Wei Dynasty, Pusa Peak has endured centuries of religious devotion and imperial recognition. Post the Ming Yongle era, Mongolian and Tibetan Buddhists embraced Wutai Mountain, with Pusa Peak becoming their spiritual nucleus. Notably, during the reigns of the Qing emperors Kangxi and Qianlong, both monarchs paid homage to Wutai Mountain, inscribing monumental steles in the Eastern Hall and Rear Courtyard of Pusa Peak. These steles, crafted from Han white jade, bear inscriptions in four scripts—Chinese, Mongolian, Manchu, and Tibetan—all personally handwritten by Emperor Kangxi.

Transportation:

  • Bus: Take the bus from Taiyuan Passenger Transport East Station to Wutai Mountain, with departures from 6:40 to 18:30. The journey takes around 4 hours.
  • Train: Three daily trains depart from Taiyuan Station to Wutai Mountain at 7:28, 19:15, and 22:05. The journey lasts 4-6 hours, with ticket prices ranging from ¥15.5 to ¥37.5.

Internal Transportation:

  • Environmental Protection Vehicle: Available within Wutai Mountain for transportation between scenic spots and hotels. Priced at ¥50 per person, it is mandatory to purchase, regardless of usage.
  • Ascent Vehicle: For ascending Wutai Mountain, take the ascent vehicle from Dailuo Peak. Single rides cost ¥70-80, or opt for a five-passenger joint ticket at ¥350. Operating hours are from 7:30 to 16:00.
