Manbara Monk Temple
Manbala Monastery is situated on Tuhai Mountain in Lasaengmiao Town, Hainan District, Wuhai City. It was established in 1790 (Qianlong 55th year). "Manbala" is a Tibetan term meaning "Medical Scripture Illumination Institute." Manbala Monastery is a place dedicated to the study of medical-religious practices. The monks here first study scriptures and then delve into medicine (Mongolian medicine). They practice both medical and scriptural disciplines, aiming to achieve a high level of expertise in the field of medicine. It is said that several dozen secret formulas of Mongolian medicine were developed here, making it a sacred place for Tibetan Buddhism with a focus on Mongolian medicine. During the Cultural Revolution, Manbala Monastery suffered damage, with only the main hall, Medicine Buddha Pagoda, Guardian Hall, and cave remaining. Later, the government approved and designated Manbala Monastery as the only Gelugpa (Lamaism) religious activity site in the Wuhai region. With the extensive support of monks and religious followers, the fourth incarnation, Xiazonggar Shadersibu Danbinnyi, led the comprehensive restoration of the temple, which has now taken shape. Nowadays, the temple fair attracts crowds, and there is a continuous stream of visitors for worship and sightseeing.
