Gander Mountain Gorge
Gandelshan Chasm - The Enigmatic Rift
Gandelshan Chasm, also known as "Yi Xian Tian" or "One-line Sky," is a captivating gorge nestled on the slopes of Gandelshan Mountain in the northwest of Hainan District. Spanning over 650 meters in length, the chasm creates a stunning visual spectacle as if a colossal blade cleaved through the mountain, leaving behind towering cliffs on either side. The narrowest point is a mere one to two meters wide.
As you venture into the chasm, you'll encounter a colossal rock suspended between the towering walls, creating an otherworldly and mysterious atmosphere. The entire gorge is surrounded by rock formations resembling knife edges and axes, adding to its enigmatic allure.
Legend has it that the formation of Gandelshan Chasm is attributed to various mythical stories. Some believe it is the result of Erlang Shen splitting the mountain to save his mother, while others suggest it was a pathway created by the immortal He Xiangu for convenient access to collect medicinal herbs.
In 1994, a group of Chinese geologists gathered to study the formation of Gandelshan Chasm. Their consensus was that seismic activity caused the mountain to fracture and shift, resulting in the spectacular chasm we see today.
