Tamin Chagan Desert
Embark on a Desert Odyssey: The Mystical Taminqugan Desert in Tongliao
Stretching from the eastern reaches of Naiman Banner into Kulun Banner, the Taminqugan Desert weaves a sinuous path into the territory of Kezuohou Banner, earning the moniker "Eight Hundred Miles of Vastness." In Mongolian, Taminqugan translates to "devil" or "hell." This east-west-oriented desert, situated along the northern edge of Kulun's Buodian area, spans an elevation of 250 to 300 meters. Within Kezuohou's jurisdiction, it extends approximately 60 kilometers in length, 5 kilometers in width, covering a total area of 280 square kilometers. It traverses the towns of Liujiazi, Manghansumu, Elelshun, and Kulun. Despite its vastness, the Taminqugan Desert is easily accessible, and its landscape is characterized by sparse vegetation. Apart from scant vegetation such as yellow willow, sand wormwood, and camel thorn in its interior, the desert is largely devoid of substantial greenery.
