Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall, originally known as "Tangshan Earthquake Material Exhibition Hall," was built in 1986 to commemorate the great feat of the Tangshan people in earthquake resistance and rescue efforts, as well as the reconstruction of Tangshan following the devastating earthquake in 1976. The earthquake killed tens of thousands of people and caused massive damage to the city. The Memorial Hall was renamed "Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall" in 1996 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the earthquake rescue efforts.

The Memorial Hall is located in the center of Tangshan City, just west of the Earthquake Memorial Monument. It covers an area of 5380 square meters after the renovation and expansion. The original building, with a floor area of 1488 square meters, was built in 1986. In 1999, the hall was renovated to include two projection rooms, each with a total area of 90 square meters. The rooms are equipped with projection TVs and other recording and playback devices. The earthquake rescue efforts display area was also renovated, with five sets of display cabinets added for displaying real objects such as clocks damaged by the earthquake, a radio used to report the earthquake to the central government, earthquake rescue tools, and letters and clothes sent from people across the country to comfort the victims. The Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall currently has a total exhibition area of 2500 square meters and a collection of over 100,000 objects and documents related to the earthquake and its aftermath. The hall showcases not only the city's tragic history but also its recovery and rebirth.

The second section tells the story of how the Tangshan people, with the help of the government and people across the country, responded to the earthquake and its aftermath. The third section to ninth section showcase how Tangshan has been rebuilt and showcase its progress and achievements.
