The main building, spanning four floors, is dedicated to the theme of "Spirit of Jin," with the second and third floors featuring specialized exhibitions on historical and cultural topics, and the fourth floor showcasing art-themed exhibits.

Boasting an impressive collection of approximately 400,000 precious artifacts, the museum is renowned for its distinctive items such as relics from the Neolithic era's Taosi site, artifacts from the Shang Dynasty's Fangguo, and cultural relics from the Ming and Qing dynasties associated with the Shanxi merchants.

In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions. The main building also houses a restaurant and tea house for the convenience of visitors. The ongoing exhibitions cover themes like the dominance of the Jin State, the hometown of traditional Chinese opera, and the cultural legacy of Shanxi merchants.
