Chongshan Temple
Chong Shan Temple, situated on Diliangong Street in Yingze District, Taiyuan, Shanxi, holds its roots in the Tang Dynasty. Originally named White Horse Temple, it underwent subsequent name changes to Yan Shou Temple and Zong Shan Temple. During the Ming Dynasty, it assumed its current moniker, Chong Shan Temple. In the fourteenth year of the Hongwu era (1381), Zhu Yuanzhang's third son, Jin Gong Prince Zhu Kuo, undertook significant expansions.
Before the Ming Dynasty, it was a relatively modest temple, with some speculating it served as Emperor Yang of Sui's temporary palace during his visit to Taiyuan. There are also legends suggesting it was the former residence of Wu Zetian during her early years as a nun. The inscription "Zong Tang Ruins" on the right side of the mountain gate likely stems from these folklore tales.
