Return to urban Urumqi in the afternoon to explore Erdaoqiao Grand Bazaar, the city's largest outdoor market.

Day 3: Urumqi to Turpan - Ancient Cities and Local Life
Following the Footsteps of Silk Road Traders
After breakfast, travel 200 km to the historic oasis city of Turpan. Your first stop is the remarkable Karez Well system, an ancient underground irrigation network that sustained civilization in this arid region. Experience authentic Uygur culture through a family visit, where you'll learn to prepare traditional Xinjiang cuisine and explore local vineyards. Visit the magnificent Emin Minaret (Sugong Pagoda), Xinjiang's largest ancient pagoda and the country's only Islamic ancient pagoda. Conclude your day watching sunset over the majestic Jiaohe Ancient City, followed by a leisurely 40-minute valley walk. Optional dinner under grape trellis with a local family completes this immersive day.

Discover the Bezeklik Caves, where Buddhist monks carved over 100 caves into cliff faces between the 6th and 9th centuries. Marvel at the panoramic view of Flaming Mountain from a distance before returning to Urumqi in the afternoon.
