Situated 15km north of Shijiazhuang, Zhengding Ancient City exemplifies traditional Han Chinese urban planning and architecture from the 5th to early 19th century. This living museum encapsulates the historical culture of the Han people with well-preserved buildings dating back centuries.

Once known along with Baoding and Beijing as the "Three Heroic Garrisons of the North", Zhengding's south gate still bears the stone plaque "Three Heroic Garrisons". It is the hometown of Three Kingdoms general Zhao Zilong.
