Known anciently as Ruo River and Lu River, the Yalong River is the largest tributary of the Jinsha River, upstream of the Yangtze. Spanning 1,637 km, it originates on the south slopes of the Bayan Har Mountains in Qinghai Province.
Also called the Nyag Chu River in Tibetan, meaning "river with many fish," the Yalong flows through ethnically diverse Tibetan, Han Chinese, and Yi inhabited regions. Abundant water volume, steep drops, and concentrated hydropower potential characterize this mighty waterway.
The Yalong Grand Canyon stretches 175 km long, famed for its singular beauty, seclusion, danger, and loftiness. The vistas here are especially magnificent.
Experience whitewater rafting, hiking, camping, sightseeing, and more along this natural wonder. The Yalong River offers adventure through diverse landscapes and cultures in Panzhihua. Contact scenic areas for ticket details.
