  • By Air: The most efficient method is to fly directly into Changbaishan Airport (NBS), located southeast of Songjianghe Town. This airport is the closest to the West Slope scenic area.
  • By Train: Overnight trains are available from major cities.
    • From Changchun, a daily train departs in the afternoon for Songjianghe (approx. 13 hours) and Erdaobaihe (Baihe Station, approx. 15 hours).
    • From Shenyang, three daily trains connect to Songjianghe (approx. 12 hours) and Erdaobaihe (approx. 14 hours).
  • By Long-Distance Bus: Services are less frequent but available.
    • From Changchun, buses depart from the Huanghe Road Long-Distance Bus Station to Erdaobaihe (approx. 5.5 hours) and from the Satellite Square Express Bus Station to Songjianghe (approx. 4.5 hours). Morning departures around 8:00 AM are common.
    • From Yanji, direct tourist buses to the North Slope depart from the South Bus Station at 5:30 AM (approx. 4+ hours, ~55 CNY).
  • Local Transport to the Scenic Area:
    • Scenic Area Eco-Bus: Upon arriving at the West Slope visitor center, all visitors must transfer to the official eco-friendly buses (85 CNY per person). These depart every 20 minutes for the base of the staircase. Note: In winter, bus operations may be suspended due to severe weather conditions.
    • Taxi/Private Car: From Songjianghe Town, taxis can be chartered for the 30-minute drive to the West Slope scenic area entrance. Negotiate a fare in advance (typically around 140-150 CNY per vehicle), as meters are often not used for this trip.

Admission Fees and Ticketing The West Slope operates on a combined ticket system. It is crucial to plan ahead due to reservation requirements.

  • General Admission: A combined ticket (scenic area entry + mandatory eco-bus) costs 125 RMB. The eco-bus portion alone is 85 RMB.
  • Concessions (Half-Price): Available for minors aged 7-18, seniors aged 60-65, and full-time students with valid ID.
  • Free Admission: Granted to children 6 years or under (or under 1.2 meters tall), seniors over 65, active military/police personnel, tour guides with credentials, and disabled visitors with valid certificates.
  • Important Ticketing Note: Since June 26, 2018, both the North and West Slopes of Changbai Mountain have implemented a timed-entry reservation system. When purchasing tickets (highly recommended online in advance), you must select a specific entry time slot. Admission is only permitted during your reserved timeframe. Failure to book a slot may result in being denied entry, especially during peak seasons.

Operating Hours and Best Practices * Standard Opening Hours: The scenic area is generally open from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM daily throughout the year. * Variable Schedules: It is important to note that operating hours, especially the last entry time for the ascent, can change based on season, weather, and administrative decisions. Always check the official Changbaishan tourism website for the most current information before your visit. * Recommended Visit Duration: Allocate a minimum of 3 to 4 hours for the entire experience, including shuttle bus rides, the climb, time at the summit, and the descent. This allows for a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
