1. Understanding the Vast Landscape The Jinggangshan Scenic Area is expansive, systematically divided into 11 major sub-scenic zones to manage its considerable scale and diversity. For most visitors, the core areas providing the quintessential Jinggangshan experience encompass Ciping, Huangyangjie, the Main Peak (Zhufeng), Azalea Mountain (also known as Bijiashan), and the Dragon Pool (Longtan).

Given the sheer size, private vehicles are not permitted within the core scenic zones. This policy preserves the environment and ensures efficient visitor movement. Consequently, the town of Ciping serves as the central hub and recommended base for all travelers. Functioning as the historical and logistical heart of the region, Ciping offers a wide range of accommodations, dining options, and is the departure point for the scenic area's comprehensive shuttle bus system. An itinerary of 1 to 3 days is generally considered ideal to appreciate the major historical sites and natural wonders without feeling rushed.

2. Practical Information for Your Visit

2.1. Ticketing and the Integrated Pass System To streamline access, Jinggangshan operates a convenient integrated ticket system. Your primary purchase is the Jinggangshan Scenic Area Pass, which combines entrance fees and unlimited rides on the internal shuttle buses. This all-in-one ticket is valid for 5 consecutive days, offering exceptional flexibility, and extensions can be applied for if needed.

  • Standard Combined Ticket (Entrance + Shuttle Bus): 240 RMB.
  • Entrance-Only Ticket (for those with separate transport arrangements): 160 RMB.
  • Shuttle Bus-Only Ticket: 80 RMB. (Prices are subject to change; please verify for your specific travel dates.)

Special Note for Students: From March 1, 2022, to February 28, 2023, a special national initiative offers free admission to primary, secondary, and university students, including postgraduates and graduating cohorts. Eligible students must claim their "Student Rights" and make a reservation one day in advance through the "Yunyou Jiangxi" digital platform. Each qualified student can enjoy one complimentary visit per participating scenic spot.

2.2. Operating Hours The scenic area is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last admission at 4:00 PM. It is advisable to start your days early to make the most of the daylight hours, especially when planning hikes or visits to multiple sites.

3. Navigating the Scenic Area: The Shuttle Bus Network The key to exploring Jinggangshan comfortably is its well-organized, eco-friendly shuttle bus network. Four distinct bus lines connect Ciping to all the major attractions across the different zones. Since the combined ticket already includes the shuttle bus fee, you can board these buses multiple times throughout the validity period of your ticket. This system makes navigating the large area effortless, allowing you to hop on and off to visit sites like the commanding heights of Huangyangjie, the stunning azalea blooms on Bijiashan, or the serene waterfalls of Longtan.

4. Exploring the Core Attractions

4.1. Ciping: The Revolutionary Heart As your likely base, Ciping is more than just a lodging town. It is home to several pivotal museums and memorials, including the Jinggangshan Revolution Museum and the Martyrs' Cemetery. These sites provide the essential historical context, detailing the early days of the Red Army and the revolutionary struggle, making them the perfect starting point for your journey.

4.2. Huangyangjie: The Strategic Pass Famed for its historic defensive battle, Huangyangjie is a must-visit for its historical significance and its spectacular natural vistas.
