Hailar National Forest Park: A Symphony of Nature in Hulunbuir

Nestled atop the scenic West Mountain in Hailar District, Hailar National Forest Park stands as the sole national-level forest park in China, primarily dedicated to the majestic Korean pine.

Park Overview: The park is meticulously divided into the Southern, Northern, and Western sections, alongside a Reserve Area. The Southern sector boasts millennia-old cultural relics from the Neolithic pebble tool period on the Northern grasslands, enriching the region with historical significance. Noteworthy on the Southern side are remnants of Japanese military fortifications, constructed in 1934 and known as the Shasongshan Stronghold, which played a role in the Sino-Japanese War before being destroyed by the Soviet Red Army in 1945.

In recent years, the Southern section has witnessed the establishment of thematic attractions like the Folk Customs Park Restaurant, Hailar Exhibition Hall, Botanical Garden, and Zoo, complemented by scenic spots such as the Tree King, Guardian Pine, Injured Pine, Ganquan Pine, Lianli Pine, and Genpo Pine. The panoramic view from the Celebrity Peak offers an awe-inspiring spectacle of endless forests, echoing with the tranquil melodies of pine whispers.

The Northern expanse, the largest among the three, preserves the Korean pine in its natural state. Particularly renowned is the White Sand Beach, featuring fine, white sand against a backdrop of grasslands, Korean pine forests, and an enchanting river. This amalgamation forms a captivating tableau. The vast ecological system, enriched by expansive forests and grasslands, provides an ideal habitat for wildlife, leading to the establishment of a free-range wildlife park.

The Western section predominantly features wetlands, covering an area of approximately 2,500 hectares with 15 lakes. These wetlands harbor numerous waterfowl, including nationally protected species like swans, as well as gray geese, herons, cranes, and wild ducks. The China-Japan Friendship Forest, situated on the extensive flat wetland meadows, boasts mature Korean pine saplings that have flourished into a substantial forest.

The Reserve Area comprises seedling collection zones, protective afforestation construction zones, demonstration zones for forest and grass management, sand control zones, wetland conservation zones, and seedling cultivation and research zones. The artificial forests planted in the 1980s have matured into a natural oxygen haven.
