Morning: Hands-On Panda Care Activities
7:30-9:00: Chengdu Departure & Base Arrival
Your private guide will collect you from your downtown Chengdu hotel for a scenic 1.5-hour journey to the renowned Dujiangyan Panda Base, where your panda conservation experience begins.
9:00-9:20: Volunteer Orientation & Preparation
Complete registration procedures with staff assistance, receive your official volunteer uniform and identification card, and learn essential safety protocols before beginning your panda keeper duties.
9:20-10:00: Habitat Maintenance
Under professional keeper supervision, clean panda working areas and assist with food preparation tasks including bamboo transportation, bamboo shoot washing, and stem preparation for the pandas' dietary needs.
10:00-10:30: Panda Feeding Observation
Witness professional keepers feed giant pandas through their enclosures while learning fascinating facts about panda digestion and dietary habits that contribute to their unique ecological characteristics.
10:30-11:30: Panda Biology Education
Participate in an educational session covering giant panda physiology, including their specialized vision capabilities, distinctive wrist bone adaptation for bamboo grasping, and other evolutionary traits.
Midday: Cultural Immersion & Rest Period
11:30-12:50: Authentic Keeper's Lunch
Enjoy a traditional Chinese meal at the base canteen, experiencing the same cuisine consumed by the resident panda caretakers.
12:50-13:50: Panda Conservation Documentary
View educational films detailing giant panda conservation efforts, breeding programs, and ongoing research initiatives at the Dujiangyan facility.
Afternoon: Specialized Panda Care Activities
13:50-14:30: Nutritional Preparation
Learn to create specialized panda cakes (steamed corn bread) while exploring the dietary differences between captive and wild giant pandas with expert guidance.
14:30-15:30: Senior Panda Care
Assist in preparing specialized bamboo leaf meals for elderly pandas undergoing rehabilitation, contributing directly to their health and wellbeing.
15:30-16:30: Base Exploration & Certificate Ceremony
Conclude your volunteer experience with a comprehensive tour of the panda base facilities and receive your official Dujiangyan Panda Base volunteer certification.
16:30-18:00: Return Journey to Chengdu
Your private vehicle returns you to downtown Chengdu, with optional drop-off at renowned local food markets for authentic Sichuan culinary experiences.
Essential Participation Guidelines
Health & Safety Protocols
Volunteers must refrain from wearing perfumes or nail polish to protect panda health. Participation is limited to individuals aged 12-65 for safety considerations.
Program Flexibility
Activities may be modified due to panda health conditions, government requirements, or base scheduling. Early booking is strongly recommended to secure placement.
