The Lama Temple
Located in the northeast corner of Beijing's Dongcheng District, Yonghe Temple is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in the city.
In 1694 during the Qing Dynasty, it became the residence of Yinreng, the fourth son of Emperor Kangxi. In 1983, it was designated a national key Buddhist temple for Han Chinese by the State Council.
The temple layout follows the standard "seven halls of Chan" with main structures like Zhaotaimen Gate, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Yonghe Gate, Main Hall, Lecture Hall, Tantric Hall.
From the flying eaves and painted columns of the east and west archways to the antique-styled east and west Shanlou Halls, Yonghe Temple contains over 1,000 rooms and halls of magnificent grandeur.
Allow 1-3 hours to explore this historic site. Take bus 13, 84, 116, 117 or Night 6 to Yonghe Temple Stop, then walk about 150 meters.
