Kundulun Reservoir: A Serene Oasis in Bayannur

Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of the Xincheng Qiankouzi Northwest Mountains in Kundulun District, Bayannur City, the Kundulun Reservoir stands as a testament to human ingenuity and the harmonious coexistence of nature and engineering. Located 6 kilometers south of Qiankouzi, the reservoir has become a symbol of environmental conservation and a haven for recreational activities.

Engineering Marvel and Scenic Oasis: In November 1958, the people of Baotou City took on the formidable task of intercepting the Kundulun River between the Ula and Daqing Mountains. This strategic intervention effectively curbed the threat of floods and, concurrently, gave rise to a captivating landscape spanning 4,500 hectares. Completed in July 1960, the dam boasts a height of 37 meters, a top width of 7 meters, and a length of 476 meters.

Adorning the outer slope of the dam are five monumental characters proclaiming "Kundulun Reservoir," an inscription that reflects the pride and dedication invested in this environmental project. The spillway, featuring a 5.9-meter wide, 6.5-meter high, and 130-meter long pressure-free overflow channel, contributes to the reservoir's impressive capacity of 7,850 cubic meters.

Recreational Haven: Standing atop the dam, one is greeted with a panoramic view of lush mountains, layered in hues of green. The reservoir, reminiscent of a gem nestled among the peaks, offers a multitude of recreational activities. Visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and embark on exhilarating speedboat rides to soak in the breathtaking vistas.

On the eastern and western slopes surrounding the reservoir, enthusiasts can indulge in target shooting and marksmanship, adding an element of adventure to the serene setting. Within the central part of the reservoir, pavilions and waterside gazebos provide ideal spots for admiring the scenic beauty. Additionally, various amusement facilities cater to the entertainment needs of visitors, while unique restaurants offer a diverse culinary experience.

Natural Splendor and Recognition: Surrounded by a green forest belt, the Kundulun Reservoir transforms into a vibrant tapestry during spring and summer. Blossoming flowers, vibrant greenery, and the harmonious symphony of water birds against the backdrop of the blue sky create an enchanting spectacle. Recognizing its significance, the National Tourism Administration awarded Kundulun Reservoir the prestigious AA-level tourist destination status in 2002.

In essence, Kundulun Reservoir is not merely a reservoir but a harmonious blend of human endeavor and the pristine beauty of nature. As visitors explore its scenic offerings, they partake in an experience that seamlessly intertwines conservation, recreation, and admiration for the wonders of Bayannur's landscapes.
