To reach the scenic area:
There is no public transportation from the town to the scenic area. The one-way charter fee is approximately 60 RMB (on regular days).
If chartering a car from the town to the scenic area and touring within the area (including from the Grotesque Poplar Forest to the Black City) before returning to town, the round-trip car fee varies from 120 to 150 RMB (on regular days), with no admission fee for local drivers.
Sightseeing buses operate during the National Day holiday.
There are many shuttle bus trips, but they are often crowded. Physical stamina is required to secure a spot. The shuttle bus stops at two stations within the Grotesque Poplar Forest and one station in the Black City.
If disembarking at the "Second Station" within the Grotesque Poplar Forest and walking approximately ten minutes, visitors can reach the Red City.
There is a station in Datong City, but few tourists currently visit due to barriers surrounding the site. If disembarking at this station, prior communication with the driver is necessary.
Preparation:
Given the arid Gobi desert climate, visitors should be prepared for sun protection, wind resistance, and sand prevention throughout the year. Essential items include sunglasses, a headscarf, lip balm, and other protective gear.

Admission is included in the ticket for the Black City - Grotesque Poplar Forest area, with a combined ticket cost of 120 RMB. Additionally, during the National Day holiday, a bus fee of 40 RMB is charged (available only during this period).
