Guangzong Temple:
Architectural Marvel: Also known as "Danjileng" in Tibetan, locally referred to as the "Southern Temple," Guangzong Temple was constructed in fulfillment of the posthumous wish of the 6th Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso. The temple gained renown in the Mongolian-Tibetan religious realm for housing the relic stupa containing the mortal remains of the 6th Dalai Lama. The temple proudly displays a wooden plaque inscribed with Tsangyang Gyatso's famous poetic verses.
Historical Significance: Established in the 22nd year of the Qianlong Emperor's reign (1756 AD), Guangzong Temple acquired imperial recognition in the 25th year (1760 AD) through the bestowment of a plaque bearing its name in Mongolian, Chinese, Manchu, and Tibetan scripts. The temple is home to precious artifacts, including the Doupeng of Gandan Chiquba (the leader of the Gelug school in Tibetan Buddhism), the bell and vajra of Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang, the Five-Buddha Crown presented by the 6th Dalai Lama, and a silver pot gifted by the 8th Panchen Lama.
Architectural Splendor: Comprising over 20 buildings, many of which are recent constructions, the primary structures include the Grand Hall, Main Scripture Hall, and the Yellow Tower Temple, housing the relic stupa. The Yellow Tower Temple, a two-story edifice adorned with vibrant yellow and green glazed tiles, stands as an exquisite masterpiece.
Exploration and Scenic Wonders:
Stone Carvings: Visitors can marvel at the extensive array of colorfully painted Buddha stone carvings adorning the rock faces on both sides of the temple's entrance gate. This collection represents the largest ensemble of stone-carved Buddhas in Inner Mongolia.
Helan Mountain Forest: Adjacent to the temple, the pristine Helan Mountain forest provides a serene retreat, with opportunities for mountain climbing, offering a tranquil escape from the bustle of the temple grounds.
