Shuangqiao Valley: A Tapestry of Alpine Splendor in Siguniangshan
Nestled within the majestic embrace of the Siguniangshan (Four Maidens Mountain) National Park in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, lies Shuangqiao Valley, widely celebrated as the most picturesque of all the valleys in the area. Stretching approximately 34.8 kilometers in length, this breathtaking valley offers visitors a quintessential alpine experience, masterfully weaving together dramatic snow-capped peaks, serene pastures, expansive grasslands, and dense primordial forests into a single, unforgettable panorama. A Journey Through the Valley's Three Realms
The Lower Section: Gateway of Mystical Forms The journey typically begins in the lower reaches of Shuangqiao Valley. Here, the landscape introduces itself with a sense of grandeur and mystery. Key attractions include Yinyang Valley, where the interplay of light and shadow on the steep canyon walls creates a mesmerizing effect, and the Five-Color Mountain (Wuse Shan), a geological marvel whose stratified rock faces appear to shift in hue with the changing angle of sunlight, presenting a natural canvas of ochres, reds, and grays. This area sets the tone with its imposing geological sculptures.
The Middle Section: Where Water and Life Intertwine As the sightseeing bus progresses, the valley floor opens up into the middle section, a region characterized by gentle waterways and vibrant ecosystems. The highlight here is Nianyu Dam (Fish Herding Dam), a vast, placid meadow bisected by clear, meandering streams. During warmer months, it transforms into a lush green carpet, ideal for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful picnic amidst stunning mountain reflections. Nearby, the Sea Buckthorn Forest stands as a testament to resilience, its gnarled and ancient bushes, particularly striking in autumn when laden with bright orange berries, creating a vivid contrast against the blue sky and white peaks.
The Upper Section: Alpine Meadows and Distant Peaks The final segment transports visitors to the high alpine environment. Niupengzi Meadow (Cow Shed Meadow) is a vast, open grassland offering unobstructed, postcard-perfect views of the towering snow-crowned peaks of the Siguniangshan range, including the most accessible frontal perspectives of these majestic mountains. Further in, Changhetan (Long River Beach) features a wide, pebbled riverbed flanked by meadows, where glacial streams flow, and the full scale of the valley's depth and the surrounding peaks becomes awe-inspiringly clear. This section embodies the pure, rugged beauty of the high Himalayas.
Essential Visitor Information
Ticket Information: Admission to Shuangqiao Valley operates on a seasonal pricing system and is separate from the sightseeing bus fee, which is required for entry and transportation within the valley.
- Peak Season (April 1 - November 30): Entrance ticket: Full price 80 RMB; Concession 40 RMB. Sightseeing Bus: 70 RMB.
- Low Season (December 1 - March 31): Entrance ticket: Full price 50 RMB; Concession 25 RMB. Sightseeing Bus: 70 RMB.
- Free Admission: Policy-compliant active/retired military personnel, disabled veterans, active/retired firefighters, disabled persons, veterans of the Korean War, seniors aged 65 and above, seniors aged 60-64 on non-national holidays (with ID), and children 6 years old (inclusive) and below.

Opening Hours: Operating hours vary slightly by season. The last entry time is strictly enforced to ensure visitors can complete the valley tour.

- Extended Hours (Peak Season/Specific Periods): 07:00 - 15:30 (Last entry at 15:30). Visitors must board the final sightseeing bus from the terminus back to the entrance before the park closes.
Transportation Guide: The primary gateway is Chengdu.
- Long-Distance Bus: The most common method is to take a bus from Chengdu Chadianzi Passenger Transport Station directly to Xiaojin County. The journey takes several hours.
- Final Leg to the Valley: From Xiaojin County town, you will need to take a local taxi or arrange a private car for the remaining distance to the Siguniangshan Visitor Center at the entrance of Shuangqiao Valley. Some shared minivan services also operate on this route, with fares approximately around 110 RMB per person, similar to the taxi option.
Suggested Visit Duration: A minimum of 3 to 4 hours is recommended to fully appreciate Shuangqiao Valley. This allows time for the round-trip sightseeing bus ride, with stops at major viewpoints, short walks on the boardwalks and trails at designated areas like Nianyu Dam, and ample opportunity for photography. A more leisurely pace to enjoy hikes or longer stops would require half a day or more.
